The term LTE stands for Long-Term Evolution – a standard for high-speed wireless communication for mobile devices and data terminals which is aimed at offering high speeds and low latency over long distance. This depends on the network providers’ coverage. Many people use LTE devices in their daily lives now from tablets to smartphones.
Icom’s IP501H is a perfect example of an LTE Radio which enables two-way communication with the ease and comfort of PTT (Push-To-Talk) operation and nationwide coverage over a 4G (LTE) and 3G network. This is an alternative to traditional radio.
It basically provides the end user with a telephone style conversation without investing in setting up a radio network infrastructure.
Icom’s network cloud control server is based in Australia where it has undergone strict corporate governance and adheres to the strict guidelines around the management of data.
The LTE radio also known as push to talk over cellular offers instantaneous communication over a pre-established cellular network. It does not require its own repeater or IP network and thereby reduces the cost of building and maintaining a wide area radio network.
The Icom platform is proprietary to the IP501H and can only be utilized with that device. Own SIM cards cannot be used in the IP501H – the Icom supplied Optus SIM must be used.
